KUALA LUMPUR: Kenya wants Malaysians to enjoy its safaris, beaches and lakes, and a memorandum of understanding between both countries can pave the way for more visits.
Malaysia and Kenya hope to sign such an agreement to promote tourism in both countries.
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the matter would be brought to the attention of the Cabinet for approval soon.
He said the ministry and Kenya’s Tourism and Wildlife Ministry would sign the agreement to further strengthen bilateral ties if approval is given.
“Currently, due to connectivity problems, few people from Malaysia and Kenya chose the other country as a tourist destination.
“I hope, if the (memorandum of understanding) is realised, our Kenyan counterparts will promote Visit Malaysia 2007 extensively,” he told reporters at his office in Putra World Trade Centre here yesterday.
Earlier, Kenyan Tourism and Wildlife Minister Morris Dzoro, who led a delegation from Kenya, paid a courtesy call on Tengku Adnan.
Tengku Adnan said Dzoro was also interested in investment opportunities between the two countries, and encouraged more investors from Malaysia to be involved in the construction, infrastructure development and tourism fields.
