KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 (Bernama) -- In its pursuit to be electronic ticketing (eTicketing) capable by September this year, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has completed the rollout of interline eTicketing with its first partner, Singapore Airlines (SIA).

This cutover represented another stage of MAS' RM400 million Passenger Services System rollout to upgrade all information technology (IT) infrastructure to facilitate the airline's move to the International Air Transport Association (IATA)'s standard eTicketing.

This will enable SIA's ticket offices to issue eTickets to all the destinations it services to passengers of both airlines, MAS and SIA said in a joint statement, here Wednesday.
The next phase will cover ticketing by MAS' agents in Malaysia and Singapore, as well as SIA's agents worldwide, the two airlines said.

Subsequently, this initiative will cover all distribution channels of both airlines, they added.
With the rollout of interline eTicketing between both airlines, plans are also underway to implement eTicketing for the shuttle service arrangements on the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore-Kuala Lumpur route, MAS and SIA said.

The partnership was formalised yesterday by MAS commercial director Datuk Rashid Khan and SIA executive vice president of marketing and the regions, Huang Cheng Eng.

"We are delighted with completion of this interline eTicketing, which sets us firmly on track to be eTicketing capable by Sept 21," Rashid said.

"We will now move to implement this with over 200 airlines worldwide," he said.
