MAS Offers Special Fares And Holiday Packages At MATTA Travel Fair

KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines System Bhd (MAS) is offering attractive domestic and international travel airfares, MASholidays packages and travel-related products at the MATTA Travel Fair from March 16-18, 2012.

In a statement Wednesday, MAS said all-inclusive discounted airfares for economy and business class would be available through its appointed agents participating in the fair while MASholidays would offer domestic and international holiday package promotional fares.

"Business class travellers can enjoy all-inclusive return air fares from RM1,899 to Phnom Penh, Manila and Hanoi, RM3,699 to both Beijing and Hong Kong, RM4,899 to Seoul and Male and RM10,015 to Los Angeles.

"Similar fares to London start from RM20,999 and passengers will enjoy the travel comfort of the Airbus A380-800 on selected days starting from July 2012," it said.

MAS said its unit, Firefly, would also offer great deals to destinations like Koh Samui, Langkawi, Terengganu, Kota Bahru, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. MAS said those interested and not be able to make it to the PWTC to grab these deals could get them via its website at www.malaysiaairlines.com, call centre at 1-300-88-3000 and ticket offices nationwide.

KK-Singapore Flights Set To Boost Sabah MICE Sector

KOTA KINABALU, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Direct Sabah-Singapore flights, besides boosting tourism, would also give the state an opportunity to promote its MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) facilities.

Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, Datuk Masidi Manjun, said Singapore was well-known as a premier hub in the Asian region that acted as a gateway to other international cities around the world.

"I trust the flights will attract more inbound international tourists and professionals and we see this as a partnership to enhance business," he said after welcoming 161 passengers of the Jetstar Asia's inaugural flight from Singapore here Tuesday.

He said Jetstar Asia, a subsidiary of Australia's Qantas Airways based in Singapore, could open more doors for other international airlines to operate flights to Kota Kinabalu.

Jetstar Asia's chief executive officer, Chong Phit Lian, said the airline hoped to bring international tourists to Sabah from or via Singapore to make up for the decreasing number of tourists affected by airline companies that ceased to operate flights to Sabah.

"Jetstar Asia will be flying daily between Kota Kinabalu and Singapore beginning Dec 20 to encourage visitations in both destinations whether for business or pleasure.

"Currently, Jetstar Asia operates four flights a week," she said.

Sabah May Host Monsoon Cup Next Year - Azalina

KOTA KINABALU, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Sabah may host the Monsoon Cup Sailing Championship next year, said Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

She said the final decision rest with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The Tourism Ministry has proposed the event not to be held at the same place every year but instead rotated among certain states, Azalina told reporters after holding a dialogue with non-government organisations and Sabah tour and travel agencies at Sutera Harbour Resort here, Sunday.

"Datuk Masidi Manjun (Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister) and me will discuss the proposal with the prime minister at the closing of the Monsoon Cup in Terengganu early next month," said Azalina.

She cited Sutera Harbour Resort as a suitable venue for the event should Sabah host the championship as the hotel could accommodate the participants and visitors.

MAS All Inclusive Low Fares Goes Global Sale Begins Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines' (MAS) first All Inclusive Low Fares Goes Global sale begins Thursday for 66 domestic and international destinations.

One-way fares start from RM63 nett for domestic travel, RM158 nett for Asean and RM472 nett for international, MAS said in a statement here.

"Our sales for the recent All Inclusive Low Fares promotion showed a 400 percent increase, clearly demonstrating that customers loved our low fares, transparent pricing and recognised the value of flying five star," said MAS senior general manager, sales, Datuk Bernard Francis.

He also said MAS was also looking at offering all inclusive low fares for other destinations soon.

"We are dynamically pricing our fares to ensure that customers benefit from low fares and to stimulate travel," Bernard said.

Three million seats are on offer, covering destinations in Malaysia, Asean, the Asia Pacific, South Asia, Australia, the Americas and Europe.Customers can choose to travel from Kuala Lumpur and/or Kota Kinabalu.

The booking period starts from November 13-30 and the travel period is from November 20-September 30, 2009.

New AirAsia Low Fares Campaign To Celebrate 100% Airbus Fleet In Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- AirAsia is offering fares from as low as RM1 for international and domestic destinations through its latest campaign, "Absolute".

The low fares campaign is being introduced in conjunction with AirAsia's move to set a new benchmark for efficiency, reliability and quality with an all Airbus A320 fleet in its Malaysian operations, the airline said in a statement here today.

AirAsia said the campaign covered all domestic and international destinations from six of its hubs, primarily in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Johor), Thailand (Bangkok) and Indonesia (Jakarta and Bali).

AirAsia said some of the hottest international destinations included in the campaign where it flies directly to from Kuala Lumpur are, Singapore, priced as low as RM1, Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi and Vientiane for only RM11 as well as the newly launched Guilin, Melbourne and Perth routes with fares ranging from RM101 to RM199.

The hot deals also include new routes and frequencies AirAsia launched recently such as to Hong Kong from Bangkok, from Pekan Baru to Singapore and the additional six times daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.

The booking period for the campaign is from Oct 11-27 for the travel period of Feb 9-July 31, 2009.

For domestic routes from Jakarta to Makassar and Yogyakarta, the booking period is from Oct 11-27 with the travel period from Oct 20-July 31,2009.

The campaign period includes flights from Kuala Lumpur to Makassar as well.

October 13, 2008-- Malaysia Airports Continues To Attract New Routes To Its Five Largest Airports Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching And Langkawi. Since The Beginning Of The Year, Malaysia Airports Has Welcomed Over 55 New Routes From 12 Airlines, Generating Around 200 Additional Weekly Flights, A Significant Achievement Given The Current Economic Climate And The Impact High Oil Prices Is Having On The World's Airlines.

At Kuala Lumpur International Airport, national carrier Malaysia Airlines has started Karachi and Yogyakarta, whilst Asia's fastest growing low cost carrier Air Asia has launched Guangzhou, Yogyakarta, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Haikou, Guilin, Batam and Pekanbaru (Indonesia Air Asia). Air Asia's long haul sister company Air Asia X has launched Hangzhou and Gold Coast. Kuala Lumpur has also attracted two new low cost carriers on the deregulated Singapore route, Jetstar Asia and Tiger Airways.

Penang Airport has received three new routes from Sriwijaya Air and Indonesia Air Asia as well as increased frequencies from Cathay Pacific. In East Malaysia, Kota Kinabalu has gained four new air services: Jakarta, Denpasar (both operated by Indonesia Air Asia), Manila (Cebu Pacific) and Labuan (Air Asia). Langkawi has attracted a number of new carriers operating short charter programmes, for example, Hong Kong Airlines has operated a short programme this summer to Hong Kong.

The rest of the year continues to look bright with another 7 destinations already announced to start before the end of the year. From Kuala Lumpur, Air Asia X will continue their network expansion to Australia starting services to Melbourne and Perth in November. Air Asia will start Tiruchirapally and Air Niugini, a new carrier to Kuala Lumpur, is planning to start new services to Papua New Guinea. Firefly will also start two new points from Penang to Medan and Banda Aceh.

There is not expected to be any new carriers on the fully deregulated KL - Singapore trunk route from 1st December 2008. However, Tiger and Air Asia have already announced considerable frequency increases with both carriers adding an additional 4 daily frequencies, Air Asia up to 6 daily from 2 daily and Tiger up to 5 daily from daily. This means there are an additional 56 weekly flights on top of the current 129 weekly flights between KL and Singapore, an increase of over 40%.

AirAsia To Operate New Routes Between Singapore And Cities In Sabah, Sarawak

KOTA KINABALU, Oct 4 (Bernama) -- Low-cost carrier AirAsia has been given the green light to operate new routes between Singapore and three cities in Sabah and Sarawak.

Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat said those cities are Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Miri.

"Detailed negotiations between my ministry and the Singapore authorities will be finalised this month and we hope AirAsia can operate those routes as soon as possible. Definitely this year," he told reporters after attending the Sabah MCA convention here.

Ong also said that the negotiations would involve increasing AirAsias frequency between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore by December.

Currently, AirAsia is operating the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route twice daily.

Meanwhile, Ong quashed misconceptions that Malaysia was not practising the open sky policy.

"People seem to have a misconception on the open sky policy when it is actually in place," he said.

"We have reached agreements with other countries to practise this policy in Sabah and Sarawak as well as at our secondary airports," he added.

PNB Ready To Help Sabah With Homestay Tourism Product

KOTA KINABALU, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- Perbadanan Nasional Bhd (PNB) is ready to help Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) establish a homestay tourism product as a franchise business in the state.

Chairman of PNB Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said homestay programme had the potential of becoming a franchise business considering Sabah's powerful and attractive tourism pull.

"Homestay is a good programme and we are ready to work with Secdo to develop it as a franchise business."

Under the concept of a homestay programme, tourists get to stay and enjoy their visits in traditional homes and among people who have opened up their homes to the tourists.

"If tourists are given the assurance that a homestay has quality especially in terms of hygiene, convenient accommodation and food, I feel that the concept can be developed and we can work with Sedco to make it a success," Shahrir told reporters after the launch of a seminar here today on the franchise business by Sabah's Minister of Industry Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin.

He said PNB was also ready to help Sabah government market its herbal products through franchising via its newly introduced "Forest Secret" outlets.

"We will repack the herbal products found in Sabah before marketing them through our Forest Secret outlets," he said.

KK’s seventh year as a city

Fireworks lighted the skies on Feb 1 as Kota Kinabalu folk celebrated the seventh anniversary of the state capital’s city status.

The 15-minute pyrotechnic display brought cheers and applause from the 10,000 crowd that included Sabah Yang DiPertua Negri Tun Ahamadshah Abdullah and Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman.

The event and festivities were held at the seaside Promenade Boulevard.

Imposing: The 1 Borneo Hypermall float taking part in the parade.

The evening’s programme got underway with a parade of colourfully lighted floats from various departments including Sabah Railways, Yayasan Sabah, City Hall and various shopping centres.

Among the highlights of the evening were performances by international cultural troupes from Australia, South Africa, Indonesia, the Philippines, South Korea and China as well as a group from the Kuching North City Hall.

The entertainment continued with the Punjabi Bhangra cultural folk dance troupe from Kuala Lumpur and this was followed by performances by local artistes including singers Rohayu Baharudin and Mohd Firdauz Abd Halim.

Also making an appearance was guitar virtuoso Roger Wang, Atama, Anthony Chong, Melanie Abd Rani, Abu Bakar Ellah, Joanne Henley Rampas and Peter Dicky Lee.

The evening was capped by a march-past bearing the Kota Kinabalu City flag which was then raised and this was followed by a fireworks display.

Other events held as part of the City Day festivities included a batik exhibition at the Centre Point shopping centre.

AirAsia offering more flights out of KK and Kuching

KUALA LUMPUR: Budget airline AirAsia will fly to Macau daily from Kota Kinabalu next month.

At the same time, it will also fly four times weekly from the Sabah capital and Kuching to Penang.

AirAsia executive vice-president (commercial) Kathleen Tan said the flights to Macau from Feb 6 were an expansion of the Kota Kinabalu hub’s international connectivity and a response to market demands.

“Our low fares are expected to attract traffic from not just Macau but also from southern China,” she said, adding that visitors from Sabah and Sarawak could now take direct flights to Macau.

“We added our third frequency to Macau early last month from our Kuala Lumpur hub due to exceptionally-high demand for the route.

“We are confident that our new flights from Kota Kinabalu will be another winner,” she said.

The flights to Penang will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with the first flights from both Kota Kinabalu and Kuching on Feb 7.

Tan said: “The rapid expansion of flights connecting Sabah and Sarawak to the peninsula will help boost tourism and stimulate economic growth.

“The current market has increased demand for the two hubs to connect to Penang,” she said.

The introductory fares for the Kuching-Penang flight will start from RM19.99 while the Kota Kinabalu-Penang flight will cost at least RM29.99. Tickets from Kota Kinabalu to Macau will start from RM49.99.

Russian tourist drowns off Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: A Russian tourist drowned while swimming at Karambunai near here Friday.

The man, Boris Puchkov, 59, had gone for a swim at about 10am and after a while, a lifeguard at a nearby resort noticed him struggling in the water.

The lifeguard rushed into the water, pulled Puchkov to the shore and administered first aid.

Puchkov was rushed to the Sabah Medical Centre and arrived there at about 11.10am. He was pronounced dead 30 minutes later. The body was later sent to the Queen Elizabeth hospital here for a post mortem.

Kota Kinabalu district police chief Asst Comm Ku Chin Wah confirmed the incident.

The incident comes just four days after a boat carrying 11 people, including seven tourists, capsized in rough seas near Sandakan, leaving one local dead.

Terminal 2 At KKIA To Be Fully Operational On Jan 1

KOTA KINABALU, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- The new Terminal 2 building of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), which will be fully operational by Jan 1 2007, is capable of handling the anticipated increase in passengers from next year.

Malaysia Airports Berhad Senior General Manager of Operations Datuk Azmi Murad said 1.6 million to 1.8 million passengers were expected to use the low-cost carrier terminal next year, up from the one million this year.

"The terminal is capable of handling up to 2.5 million passengers a year," he told reporters after visiting the terminal with members of the press today.

He said the new terminal, which cost RM60 million, was built to accommodate the needs of the growing low-cost carrier, AirAsia, besides providing better facilities to ensure passenger comfort.

It has 26 check-in counters for domestic and international flights and six parking bays for B737 and A320 aircraft as well as seven luggage Xray machines, a VIP room and 13 immigration counters.

KL Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Service Begins

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's first double-decker tour bus service, the KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus, begins Thursday, offering free rides and tour of the city until Saturday.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, who launched the service today, believed the service would make it easier for tourists to tour the city as well as visit places of interest.

"Besides targeting foreign tourists, the bus service is hoped to also attract domestic tourists to tour the city," he told reporters after the launch.

The KL Hop-On Hop-Off tour bus service is managed by Elang Wah Sdn Bhd. Its buses are equipped with facilities for the disabled.

Tengku Adnan, who also boarded one of the buses, hoped that a similar service could be introduced in other places like Langkawi, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.

Meanwhile, Elang Wah Sdn Bhd managing director Syed Azhar Syed Nadzri said the KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus route would take passengers to 42 destinations in the city, including the Istana Negara, National Mosque, Bird Park, Orchid Park and Titiwangsa Lake Park.

A complete tour of the city for those who do not get off the bus at the respective destinations, takes about 45 minutes. Tickets purchased for the bus ride are valid for 24 hours.

Syed Azhar said four buses would be operational from today with another six buses by the middle of next year.

The service is between 8.30am and 8.30pm with a 30-minute interval.

The ticket is RM38 for foreigners and RM17 for children and senior citizens while children below five years of age get a free ride.

The tickets can be purchased at special counters, hotels and selected travel agents.
